Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on the 28th of October 1967 at Atlanta. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her great-grandfather, a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. The Robertses' father was interested in theatre from an early childhood. While a student of Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. He joined the Air Force in 1953. While located in Biloxi Mississippi, was a part of a military production that included Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. The couple married in 1955 and the couple's first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. The couple divorced in 1957. the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the family relocated from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning local television show for children named Bum Bum and His Buddies from 1964. In the same year, they paid themselves. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year. The workshop lasted six years. In 1965, they welcomed two young children, Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
